Welcome to "The Chimes of India"
Create a soothing ambience of Indian Classical music
Hi, my name is Pankaj Anand and I would like to take you on a melodious tour through the fascinating world of musical wind chimes....
Wind chimes have been in existence since 1100 BC. Traditionally used to ward off evil and invoke positive flow of energy in the environment- popularly termed as “Chi”, they were first used in India in 2nd century BC, and thereafter in China, Japan, Indonesia and gradually throughout the rest of South-East Asia. They were placed in gardens, temples and pagodas as adornment to enhance the atmosphere.
For a long time, chimes were assembled from bells, tubes and other sonorous shapes that swayed to the breeze and created sounds. These sounds were usually heterogeneous and without a theme. When bronze bells were cast in India and China, wind chimes created mellifluous sounds that were pleasant to the ears. However, it is only in the recent past that chimes made of tubes or pipes strung together and tuned to a set of specific notes, have come into vogue.
The Chimes of India are different from other modern chimes – they are truly fine musical instruments in themselves. Made from carefully selected materials, I offer a choice of hand-crafted musical wind chimes tuned to notes/ notations of Indian Classical raagas. Each chime is meticulously designed to elicit the full potential of the wind. I hand tune each note-tube with precision for optimum pitch, tone and sustain to suit the composition and raaga selected.
